Director of Major Gifts
John joined the staff of Oglethorpe University in 2009 as Director of Development, before bing made Director of Major Gifts in 2012. A 1983 graduate of the University of the South, John also holds a Master’s degree in History from Duke University. John taught at North Carolina State University for four years, then became Director of Development for Carolina Day School in Asheville, NC. He also served as Assistant Head for Advancement for All Saints’ Episcopal School in Fort Worth, TX, Vice President of the John B. Cummings Co., Inc., a fund raising consulting firm in Dallas, TX, Assistant Head for Advancement at Hutchison School in Memphis, TN, and Director of Development for Savannah Country Day School in Savannah, GA. John has been an active member of CASE, serving on the CASE/NAIS conference planning committee, the CASE III conference planning committee, the Board of CASE III, as well as presenting at more than a dozen CASE conferences. A passionate sports fan, John umpired Little League baseball for 25 seasons, serving as Umpire in Chief for TN District 1 and Umpire in Chief for the TN state tournament, as well as umpiring the Southeast Junior Regional Tournament. John and his wife, Robin, live in Marietta, Georgia.
Director of Development
Lesley joined Oglethorpe’s Development staff in September 2008 as Director of the Annual Fund. Before coming to Oglethorpe, she was Director of Development at Lakeview Academy (Gainesville, GA) for nearly seven years. She is a professional member of CASE (the Council for Advancement and Support of Education), served as co-chair of the Independent Schools Track for the 2009 District III Conference, and has presented at the GISA (Georgia Independent Schools Association) and Carolinas Annual Fund conferences. Prior to her career in advancement, Lesley worked domestically and internationally in marketing and project management for a global financial services provider. She is a 1984 graduate of Auburn University, immediate past president of the Lanierland Auburn Alumni Club, enjoys mentoring young women as part of Auburn’s Harbert College of Business Women in Business network, and is an elder in the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA). She has two children who are Roanoke College Maroons.
Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations
Robyn C. Furness-Fallin, CFRE, assumed the role of Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations in May, 2015. She began her professional life as an elementary school teacher followed by several marketing positions with consulting firms in the greater Baltimore area. Her nonprofit career started at the YMCA of Central Maryland in 1986 as the Vice President for Marketing and Development. In 1992 she moved to the YMCA of Santa Clara Valley assuming the position of Vice President of Marketing & Development. Robyn moved to Atlanta in 1994 as the Chief Development Officer for the Metro Atlanta YMCA where she oversaw financial and board development, public relations, communications, special events and new capital development planning and partnerships. From 2003-2011 she led 5 campaigns with the final effort being a comprehensive, 2 wave drive to secure $110 million to increase financial assistance to underserved families; build and expand facilities and support new program development. She then returned to San Jose to join the team at the YMCA of Silicon Valley as Executive Vice President for Strategy & Innovation in 2012. In 2013, she was asked to join the senior team at YMCA of the USA as the Chief Development Officer focusing on capacity building, major gifts and grant making. In 1998 Robyn received North American YMCA Development Organization’s Award for Excellence in Fundraising. She is also an alumnus of Leadership Atlanta and Leadership San Jose. Robyn graduated with a BA from McDaniel College and holds additional nonprofit management certifications from Goucher College.
Development Officer, Special Projects and Campaign Initiatives
Barbara (Barb) joined the Development and Alumni Relations Department in 2003 after 15 years in the Admission Office. She has a BBA in economics from Oglethorpe and enjoyed a career in the financial services industry prior to returning to Oglethorpe. She is a member of CASE (the Council for Advancement and Support of Education). Barb is married to her college sweetheart Don Henry ’83 and they have 3 children.
Development Manager, Direct Appeals
Nicole joined the Development staff of Oglethorpe University in the summer of 2016, overseeing day-to-day operations of Oglethorpe’s student phonathon program, coordinating direct mail initiatives and spearheading the annual senior class gift campaign. She moved to the Atlanta area from Auburn, Alabama and is an alumna of Auburn University Montgomery, receiving her bachelor’s degree in Communication with a focus in Public Relations. Prior to her start at OU, Nicole worked in development, public relations and event coordinating at medical nonprofit organizations.
Director of Development Services
George has been with the University since 2003. He previously worked in the development offices of Point Park College and Georgia State University. He received his bachelor’s degree in English writing from the University of Pittsburgh. George recently served three consecutive terms as President of the Georgia Chapter of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA), and in 2012 served as a member of the Nominations and Leadership Development Committee for APRA-International.
Gift Processing and Stewardship Coordinator
Before returning to her alma mater in October 2011, Brianne enjoyed a career in the nonprofit sector specializing in the areas of communications and public relations. She has worked with a diverse array of constituents in a wide variety of settings, including lobbying on Capitol Hill, speaking on matters of advocacy and public policy, interacting with members of the media, and producing communications vehicles. An honors graduate of Oglethorpe University, Brianne holds a degree in philosophy and is the author of an honors thesis in sociology.
Senior Associate Director of the Annual Fund
Laura joined Oglethorpe’s Development and Alumni Relations team in April 2016. Before coming to Oglethorpe, she worked in independent school fundraising for over eleven years at The Walker School, The Howard School, and Atlanta International School. She is a professional member of CASE (the Council for Advancement and Support of Education), and served as co-chair of Hospitality for the 2014 District III Conference in Orlando. Prior to her career in fundraising for education, Laura worked in marketing and public relations for the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta and The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead. She is a 2000 graduate of The University of Georgia and serves as a Brownie Girl Scout troop leader. She has a daughter and a son, and resides in Brookhaven with her husband Kevin.
Alumni Relations Manager
Carson is a 2008 graduate of the University of Richmond, where he studied Leadership and Spanish. Following graduation, Carson began his career in independent schools. He taught Spanish, coached, and served as a dorm advisor at two different boarding schools: the Blue Ridge School in St. George, VA, and the Darlington School in Rome, GA. Before joining the Oglethorpe community, Carson worked for Southern Teachers Agency (STA)- the nation ́s oldest teacher placement service, that targets the K-12 independent school marketplace in the southeastern U.S. Most recently, he served as a regional representative for STA, based out of Atlanta, consulting with client schools in Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina. Additionally, every summer since 2008, Carson has worked for Columbia University ́s High School program in Barcelona, Spain, currently serving as the program director.
Prospect Research Specialist
Lee joined the Development staff of Oglethorpe University in October of 2015. He holds a B.A. in English from Auburn University and an M.L.I.S. from the University of North Texas. He is also a member of the Georgia Chapter of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA). Lee has previously lived in Alaska and Florida, but is excited to be back in his home state of Georgia.
Director of Alumni Relations
Mary joined the Oglethorpe University staff as the Director of Alumni Relations in the summer of 2015. Before arriving on the higher education scene in the Alumnae Relations department at Agnes Scott College in 2012, Mary spent most of her career in marketing and business development roles in the US and Europe. Mary holds a B.A. in French from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. A native Atlantan, Mary is thrilled to be back in Atlanta raising her two daughters near family and lifelong friends.
